Grief and Loss

Grief—after the death of a loved one or another major loss—touches all of our lives eventually and can shake us to our cores, even forcing us to re-evaluate our sense of who we are in the world. The impacts can be so overwhelming and unexpected that it can be difficult to imagine a way forward. No two grief processes are the same, and therapy can help you navigate, understand, and even make meaning of yours.

Trauma

I work through a trauma-informed lens with all of my clients, developing a nuanced understanding of each individual’s trauma history and what the impacts of those experiences have been on their sense of themselves and the world, and on their relational patterns. If appropriate to your needs and goals for therapy, I can help you to process those traumatic events and their effects on your life, starting to unwind related maladaptive patterns and internalized beliefs.

Phase of Life Issues

Heraclitus wrote that “there is nothing permanent except change.” Throughout our lives we are always in transition, some more challenging than others. I work well with folks who are trying to make sense of who they are now after (or during) major life changes, and also figuring out who they would like to be moving forward.

Relational Difficulties

Therapy can be a powerful space to explore challenges in many of your relationships, not just with intimate partners. An in-depth exploration of your relational history will help us to better understand the current operative patterns. We can explore ways to improve communication, reduce reactivity, and better resolve conflicts.
